DWLG Bifold door engineers attended a house in the Clapham area today to carry out an Sun Paradise bifold door repair to a 3 leaf Bi-Fold Door set. The customer informed us that the bottom hinge had snapped and would need replacing.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the 3 leaf bi-folding door had 2 broken hinges and the middle handle had become stiff. The doors had become misalign which has caused excess pressure on the hinges causing them to snap. This has also caused the shoot bolt lock to become stiff to lock.
One of the reasons the doors have become misaligned is because the glass is not correctly fitted into the bifold doors. The glass will need to be “toe and heeled” into the doors to correct this problem.
Our expert engineers at DWLG carried out the following service to the Sun Paradise doors.
DWLG removed all 3 glass units and “toe and heeled” them back into the doors. Replaced the top and bottom hinge on the leading door. Realigned all 3 doors correctly do they would run smoothly and the shoot bolt lock would engage into the correct holes.
What is Toeing and Heeling?
The Glazing inside the bi-folding doors is very large, and therefore also very heavy. Over time the weight of the glazing can cause the sash to drop within the door frame. This can make the doors misaligned and stop the doors from functioning correctly. Misaligned bi-folding doors can cause a number of issues. The might be hard to run across the track. The lock and the lock keep may no longer line and this can damage both lock and the door handle.
Toeing and Heeling is a process where packers are inserted at opposite diagonal corners of the glazed unit. This braces the glass against the internal frame, holding the glazing in place. This tops the double glazed glass unit from moving.
