DWLG’s bifold door engineers attended a house in Kensington & Chelsea W2. We conducted a Sunflex bifold door repair, to a 3-leaf bifold door set.
Our engineers found that the three-leaf bi-folding door had a damaged hinge, and all the handles were stiff upon inspection. The Sunflex bifold doors had become misaligned, causing excess pressure on the hinge. This caused the hinge to snap. This misalignment also meant the shoot bolt lock had become stiff.
One of the reasons the doors have become misaligned is because the glass is not correctly fitted into the bifold doors. The glass must be “toe and heeled” into the doors to correct this problem.
Our expert engineers at DWLG completed the following during the Sunflex Bifold Door Repair.
DWLG removed all 3 glass units and “toe and heeled” the glass units back into the doors. Our expert engineers also replaced the bottom hinge on the leading door. DWLG engineers realigned all 3 doors correctly. This means the doors can run smoothly along the track, and the shoot bolt lock would engage into the correct holes.
What is Toeing and Heeling?
The glazing inside the bi-folding doors is large, and therefore very heavy. Over time, the weight of the glazing can cause the sash to drop within the door frame. This causes misalignment and stops the doors from functioning correctly.
Misaligned bi-folding doors can cause some issues. Some include the bifold doors being hard to run across the track, and the lock may no longer line. This can damage both the lock and the door handle.
Toeing and Heeling is a process whereby packers are inserted at opposite diagonal corners of the glazed unit. This braces the glass against the internal frame, holding the glazing in place. This stops the double-glazed glass unit from moving.
