DWLG Bifold door engineers attended a property in the Brixton SW2 area today to carry out a UPVC Bi-Folding Door repair to a 4 leaf Bi-Fold Door set. The customer informed us that the doors had a rather large gap at the top of the doors, the doors were not being pulled inwards and meeting the frame correctly. This was making them extremely drafty. The Bi-fold door also had a broken handle. The customer was able sent us some pictures that we used to come prepared with the correct handle and helped us to asses the bi-folding doors before arrival to the property.

Upon arrival to the property and closer inspection DWLG, expert bi-folding door engineers decided on the best course of action to get the bi-folding doors fully functioning. The bi-folding doors would need to be toe and heeled then re-aligned. The original fitters of the doors had not toe and heeled the glass into the Bi-folding doors and this had caused major issues. There was a broken top roller hinge that would be a special order product and would need to be fitted on another visit. to support the hinge Additional fixings were added. The door also had a broken handle that would need replacing. This would make the Bi-fold doors work to there best again.

What is Toeing and Heeling?

The Glazing inside the bi-folding doors is very large, and therefore also very heavy. Over time the weight of the glazing can cause the sash to drop within the door frame. This can make the doors misaligned and stop the doors from functioning correctly. Misaligned bi-folding doors can cause a number of issues. The might be hard to run across the track. The lock and the lock keep may no longer line and this can damage both lock and the door handle.

Toeing and Heeling is a process where packers are inserted at opposite diagonal corners of the glazed unit. This braces the glass against the internal frame, holding the glazing in place. This tops the double glazed glass unit from moving.

DWLG had to preform a temporary fix to the doors until we were able to return with the replacement part needed. To do this we added extra fixings into the hinge to give it extra support. DWLG serviced and realigned the doors including toe and heel of the glass.We were able to replace the broken handle and get the doors fully functioning until we retuned with the replacement hinge.
